The Journey from Book to Movie
Vision Films Rides into Spring with Award-Winning Equestrian Film
‘If I Could Ride’
from IF I COULD RIDE the book to IF I COULD RIDE the movie
A few years back, I wrote a short book “If I Could Run”. Welling Films out of Houston Tx. came to Vermont and from the book, we produced If I Could Run, the movie. It was a very enjoyable and exciting time. A couple years went by and I kept thinking about writing another book.
One day I was driving out of my driveway and spotted my next-door young neighbor girl standing beside her horse. She had a crutch for support. I stopped and asked her what happened. She twisted her leg and would be on crutches for a while. She was really upset and sad that she couldn’t ride during that time. I tried to cheer her up. She said, and I quote, “If I could ride I would be happy”. BOOM. It hit me! What a subject for a story.
Six weeks later I finished the book. I took my neighbor girl, Sydney, and her beautiful horse “Yogi” over in front of my barn doors and took the picture for the cover of the book.
The book went very well, so I decided to try to organize a movie project based on the book. A year later everything was in place and filming began.
The filming went beyond expectations! The actors were great, the horses amazing, the weather was perfect, and the entire local community was sooo helpful. 20 days later, we completed the filming.
It took 6 months of editing before the film was ready to show. The film then went on a worldwide film festival tour. It received over 100 awards from 60 different festivals.
Two months later I made a deal with Motion Picture Exchange out of Burbank Ca. for worldwide distribution. The entire project has been so very exciting. I am so proud of everyone (and there are many of you) involved in the movie.
So, from driving out of my driveway to today…. Such a journey!
